Dear Parents

It was an absolute pleasure to welcome your children back to school on Monday and to hear about their holiday adventures.  The children were thrilled with their new I.T. room and have all enjoyed their new classrooms.  Reception have made the most of their outdoor learning area and will no doubt be surprised to find a new entrance ‘appear’ over the weekend, allowing easy access into this area.

You should all have received a copy of this term’s calendar.  Please refer to it and to our weekly Newsletters to ensure that you are fully up-to-date with forthcoming events.  We have an exciting term ahead and I look forward to sharing our news with you.

What a fantastic start we have had in Reception! The children have settled in so quickly and have been wonderful at adapting to the new class rules and routines. They have particularly enjoyed putting our ‘Golden Guide’ into practice and getting their names moved onto our class rainbow.
We have had lots of fun getting to know one another indoors and outdoors and have been super busy; reading stories, writing our names, learning new songs, recognising numbers and creating a wonderful self-portrait display. What a busy, fun week we have all had. We look forward to beginning French, Mandarin, ICT, Music and PE next week!

Year 2

Year 2 have thoroughly enjoyed their first week back at school, their new classroom and being the oldest children in KS1! They are incredibly enthused about their new topic ‘The Circus’, and have created some brilliant artwork and funny photographs to decorate the classroom with.

In English, they started their poetry unit focusing on ‘What am I?’ riddles. They read a variety of riddles and identified their features. The children also created riddles based on a classroom object for the rest of the class to decipher. Next week they will be writing their own circus riddles!

Year 3

In Science, as part of their creative curriculum topic, ‘Chocolate’, Year 3 are learning about plant reproduction and will study the Cocoa plant. This week, they have enjoyed making their own ‘lift the flap’ books to share their knowledge with their friends.

Year 4

In PSHEE, Year 4 are learning about rights and responsibilities.  They began by considering which items they would take with them to a new island.  This meant deciding which items would be needed and which would be wanted.  An interesting debate followed over the importance of money and clothes!

Year 5

In PSHEE this week, Years 5 and 6 combined and focused on encouraging confidence on stage and public speaking.  The first step, was feeling comfortable in front of their peers, and so, pair work using facial expressions to show different emotions was the fuel.  The children had to think about how their body language conveyed a message, or feeling, and their partner had to explain how they felt seeing such expressions.  This then led onto a game where each pair had to take to the stage and act out a feeling, with no sound, for the audience to guess.  Next week, the children will explore how humour can change an atmosphere and be used to ease a nervous situation.

Year 6

This year, I am delighted to announce that Ben will be Head Boy and Lyla will be Head Girl.  It was a very difficult decision because we have such an excellent cohort of children this year; however, I am confident that Ben and Lyla will prove wonderful role models to the rest of the school..

Year 6 children gave a presentation to the other children in their House and, on the back of that, I am happy to announce the House Captains and Vice Captains are as follows:

Buckenham: Sam (Captain), supported by Harry (Vice Captain)

Taylor: Abisha (Captain) supported by Toby (Vice Captain)

Wedgewood:  Colin (Captain), supported by Georgia (Vice Captain) and Jack (Secretary).

Our Sports Captains are Lucy and Junior, supported by Lara and Madoc.

Mrs Warburton is thrilled that this year we have four Music Prefects: Abdulla, Sam, Lyla and Georgia.  They started work already this afternoon, helping with our ‘Little Foals’ group.

Lara’s Showjumping Success!

Many congratulations to Lara in Year 6 for her amazing achievements in showjumping over the summer! She was selected for the English U10s teams in Ireland and in Wales, finishing in bronze and silver position. She was also selected to compete in the 128cm team, who won gold.
Lara also qualified for Horse Of The Year Show and will jump in the 128cm championship (one of only 18 riders in the UK) in Birmingham on 7th October. Well done, Lara, on your incredible achievements and best of luck in October!

Speech & Drama and Drama Club (Years 2 – 6)

We are delighted that Speech & Drama lessons are again available, under the tutelage of Mr Jonathan Woolf.   These lessons encourage self-confidence and clarity of speech in children and foster confidence and articulate expression.  Mr Woolf is happy to offer children a first free taster lesson so please do contact the School Office if you are interested in your child starting Speech & Drama.

Mr Woolf will also be running a Drama Club on Tuesdays after school.  Please contact the School Office if you would like your child to attend.

Prep Club

Prep Club continues daily in the Science Room from 4.00pm – 5.00pm.  Please collect your children after Prep Club from outside the Reception Classroom.  Thank you.

Water Bottles

All children have today been issued with a new Fairstead House water bottle.  Please ensure that this is brought in to school every day.  They are clearly labelled with your child’s name; however, please check that your child’s name does not fade or become illegible.

Site Security

Please ensure that you are vigilant in shutting all ‘picket gates’ around school and, in particular, the gates into the Nusery playground.  Thank you.

Blue stork

Our congratulations to the Vazhure family on the arrival of Baby Casey, a brother for Junior and Curtis.

Kindness Cups

This week, Kindness Cups were won by Harry in Year 6 and Virginia in Year 1.  Well done, children!

This week, we wish a happy birthday to Curtis in the Nursery and Matilda in Reception.

With my best wishes for a lovely weekend with your children.  All have had a full and exciting week and are in need of a relaxing weekend!
