What a wonderful week to end such a busy and exciting term. Last Friday’s Carol Service at St Mary’s Church and yesterday’s Carol Concert at Tattersalls were undoubted highlights of the term. Our children sang fervently and with such passion! In addition, I was struck by the confidence and clarity of all of our readers. My huge thanks to Karina Warburton, our new Director of Music, for her hard work in putting together two such super events. I know that she is thinking about next year already!
Children in Year 1 were busy writing letters to Father Christmas this week. They carefully wrote what they hoped Father Christmas would bring and then went outside to post their letters.
I had a very special guest arrive in my office this week! Father Christmas appeared early one afternoon. He spoke to all the children and they were lucky enough to each receive a gift from him.
Even French lessons were festive this week! Year 5 had great fun making baubles for the French Christmas tree and learning French Christmas greetings.
This morning, I was accompanied our Head Boy and Girl, Luie and Adele, to a reception in the Jockey Club Rooms followed by the unveiling of six slabs celebrating Legends of the Turf. Adele and Luie were involved in the unveiling of the first slab, dedicated to Mathew Dawson. Here they are with Sir Mark Prescott. Luie also spoke before the unveiling of the slab celebrating the life of King Charles II and his pivotal involvement in the establishment of Newmarket as the international home of horseracing. Further more, Adele spoke at the unveiling of the slab dedicated to Alfie Westwood. Adele was so pleased to be introduced to Mr Westwood’s twin brother, John; a very touching ceremony.
School reports will be e-mailed to you using our new School Post system on Tuesday. My colleagues and I will be very happy to answer any queries by e-mail.
Over the Christmas holidays we wish a happy birthday to Luke in Reception, Hugo in Year 1, Perdita in Year 2, Lucy in Year 3, Junior in Year 4 and Alexander in Year 6.
My colleagues join me in wishing you and your families a very happy Christmas and a healthy and joyous New Year. We look forward to seeing you and your children back at school, refreshed and ready for an exciting new term on Tuesday 10th January 2017.
